A VULNERABLE pensioner was duped out of thousands of pounds by a bogus workman.
Cops say the 81-year-old was convinced into handing out the cash for building work on his East Renfrewshire home.
The suspect is understood to have targeted the victim and visited his Netherlee property several times yesterday morning, claiming to be repairing the pensioner's roof.
Officers are now urging residents to avoid getting work done by those who come to their doorstep unannounced.
A police spokesperson told the Barrhead News: "This was a terrible incident in which a vulnerable man was convinced to hand over thousands of pounds.
“We recommend that residents seek advice or recommendations from friends or family to complete work so that it is carried to a suitable standard.
"Often people in these incidents do not feel confident to speak up or contact us but we would urge them to do so.
“If anyone suspects a bogus workman coming to their door, please contact police on 101.”
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is due to appear in Paisley Sheriff Court today.
