Fighters from Boxing Scotland will be running through Glasgow city centre in fancy dress this Saturday to raise money for mental health research.

Around 15 members of the organisation's Elite Fighter Programme will make the run into town led by national coaches Craig McEvoy and Niall Clark.

The boxers are taking part in the festive fun run to fundraise for the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH).

Boxing Scotland’s joint-national coach and performance director, Craig McEvoy, said: “It’s our last training session of the year this Saturday before we stop for a winter break.

“We all wanted to do something to mark the date and finish up for Christmas on a high and this seemed like a good way to do that and raise some money for charity.

"SAMH is a great local cause, they have a base here in the East End and were the perfect choice for us."

The group of runners will cross paths with Christmas shoppers as their route takes them from London Road and the Barrowlands to major shopping areas like Buchanan Street.

Boxing Scotland aims to increase the number of people of all ages and abilities participating in boxing and members taking part in the run are among the best young boxers in Scotland.

Craig McEvoy added: “We have great relationships with our neighbours here in the east end of Glasgow and hope that people in the area are able to come out and show their support.

"And if you see us out and about on Saturday, give us a wave or a beep and throw in a coin if you are able to.”
