EAST Renfrewshire Council has assured residents that the flooded Cowan Park "will quickly recover" amid concerns.

A large area of the Barrhead public park is waterlogged after days of incessant rain.

The lying water has cut off access to the main path running through the greenspace, while a large patch of grass is under water.

The council said that they are aware of "historical issues" with flooding in the park and installed extra meassures last year to improve drainage.

An East Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said that the current flooding is down to "unprecedented wet weather" and assured the Barrhead News that the lying water will subside.

The spokesperson said: “Additional drainage measures were installed in the park last year to combat historical issues in this area.

"While the recent sustained period of unprecedented wet weather has led to flooding, the new measures which have been put in place will ensure that as the weather returns to normal this area will quickly recover.”
