THE Helensburgh Dorian Choir brought plenty of festive cheer to the town centre at their annual Coffee and Carols fund-raiser.

The fund-raising event moved to a new and larger venue at Helensburgh Parish Church’s main hall on Saturday, November 23 – and was judged a big hit, both by the choir’s members and by the bigger crowds who were able to come along and show their support.

Eileen Drummond, the choir’s joint social convener, said: “The Coffee and Carols event raised £1,200, which was really good.

“We hoped the move to a bigger venue would attract more people – and it did.

“Everyone enjoyed the ambience and the choir worked hard to make it a good afternoon.”

The choir celebrated its 70th birthday with a special anniversary concert earlier this year – and Eileen said the milestone, and other events, had given the choir’s numbers a boost.

“We did get some more members as a result of the publicity around our 70th anniversary,” she continued, “but also from our Come and Sing event, which we held at the end of August.

“But we’re always happy to welcome new members at any time of the year.”
