MORE than 40 young athletes from Helensburgh competed in the first Scottish Athletics Indoor League match of the winter season at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
Three athletes were deserving of a special mention having competed in cross-country events in the two days before the match – well done to Maddie Rooney, Rowan Mair and Matthew Gall, who ran the School XC on Friday, then the National XC Relays on Saturday, and then turned out at the Emirates on Sunday.
One stand out performer was Murray MacLeod – he had only just joined the club that week, and in his first athletics competition he took second place in the U11 boys’ 600m.

Seven Helensburgh athletes finished in the top five places in one or more of the day’s disciplines, including Holly Kenhard (U13), who took second place in the high jump in a new best height of 1.35m and was fifth in the 60m hurdles in a new best time of 11.56 seconds.
Robert Court (U17) was second in the shot putt, Alex Brown (U15) was fourth in the long jump, and Jenny Scott (U17) was fourth in the 800m, with Katie Flett (U20) fifth over the same distance.
Amy Court (U20) was fifth in the high jump and hurdles, with James Brimson fifth in the standing long jump.

Placing in the top 10 were Alex Brown in the 60m; Kerr Tokeley (U13), Robbie Barbour (U13), Ewan McCartney (U15) and Sarah Mitchell (U17) in the hurdles; Lexy Kenhard (U17) and Robert Court (U17) in the high jump; Oliver Greetham (U17) in the long jump; Sophie Michie (U20), Matthew Gall (U15) and Cameron McDaid (U15) in the shot putt; William Scott (U15) in the 800m and 200m, both in new PB times; Iona Wilson (U17) in the 800m and Amy Court (U20) in the 400m.
Personal bests were recorded by Lottie Horrocks, Eloise Dunn and Jevan O’Connor in the 60m sprint; Maddie Rooney and Oliver Greetham in the long jump; Tom McClearn in the shot putt; Eva Rooney in the shot putt and 200m; Matthew Cameron in the 800m; Ellie Johnstone in the 200m and 300m; Oliver Greetham in the 400m; and Lewis Tokeley in both the high jump and the 400m.
