A BARRHEAD man is being prosecuted for allegedly obstructing police during a drugs search...by spraying heroin around a room.
William Brooks, of Sunnyside Place, is said to have been caught with heroin and etizolam at a flat in the town’s Manse Court on November 21 last year.
Prosecutors claim he intentionally obstructed Constables Neil Bonsor, Stuart Currie, David Nicol and Raymond Jeffries by struggling with them, placing a bag of heroin in his mouth, swallowing some of it and spraying some of it around the room.
Brooks, 43, also faces two charges in relation to events on April 22 this year.
It is claimed he intentionally obstructed Constables Steven Cross, Paul Muir and Iain Mackintosh by running away from them, struggling with them and placing his hands inside his clothing in an attempt to remove tablets.
Brooks is said to have been in possession of heroin at the same time.
All five charges have been brought under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the case against him called for the first time at Paisley Sheriff Court this week.
Brooks was not present but was represented by defence solicitor Gordon Nicol during the short hearing.
The case was continued without plea, on defence motion, until next month for prosecutors to disclose the evidence and Brooks’ lawyers to obtain his instructions on how he intends to plead to the charges.
He is ordained to appear at next month’s hearing.
