LABOUR candidate Alison Taylor has vowed to focus on giving workers a fairer deal if she wins the battle for Paisley and Renfrewshire North.

Ms Taylor blasted the “Tory misrule of our economy” which she feels has driven too many people into poverty.

And she has pledged to get behind Labour policies such as delivering a pay rise to 700,000 people in Scotland straight away.

Ms Taylor, who stood in the 2017 election, said: “Across Paisley and Renfrewshire North, too many people are in low-paid work. I believe workers deserve a fair deal.

“Today, many working people in Britain are earning less, after inflation, than they did 10 years ago and poverty among those who are working is higher now than it was in the 1990s.

“This is simply unacceptable.

“Labour will deliver a pay rise to 700,000 people in Scotland by introducing a Real Living Wage of £10 per hour on day one of government.

“As the Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, I’ll work tirelessly to deliver well-paid, secure jobs to the area.

“Moreover, I’ll vote to abolish Universal Credit, which has been an unmitigated disaster for our communities.

“We need to end the scourge of in-work poverty and support a social security system which treats people with dignity and respect.”

Ms Taylor believes many voters are sickened by the way the country has been run under a Tory government.

She said: “At this election, Labour is offering real change.

“A Labour government will rewrite the rules of the rigged system so that our economy works for everybody.

“When we create a fairer society, we all share in the wealth that’s created.

“The choice at this election could not be clearer – cuts and chaos with Boris Johnston’s Tories or a Labour government which delivers higher pay, more secure work and an economy that works for the many, not just the very wealthy few.”
