A YOUNG Renfrewshire woman has achieved the highest award in Girlguiding.
Nicola Smith, from Bishopton, was presented with her Queen’s Guide Award by Deputy Chief Guide Julie Bell at a ceremony in the House of Commons.
To achieve the prestigious award, 23-year-old Nicola took on a series of personal challenges in areas such as social action, voluntary work and travel.
Fewer than 150 young women out of the hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding members are presented with the award each year.
Nicola took three years to finish her challenges, which included organising a residential trip with her Brownie unit while studying for her university exams.
Working towards the award had been a great experience, she said.
“I had lots of fun and took on challenges that helped to develop my organisation and leadership skills,” added Nicola.
Ms Bell said: “It’s a privilege to present all these incredible young women with their Queen’s Guide Awards.
“Girlguiding is all about giving girls and young women opportunities to challenge themselves and try new things.”
