Labour candidate Alison Taylor insists it is “game on” as she targets victory in the Paisley and Renfrewshire North constituency.

The working mum also stood for the party in the snap General Election in 2017 and, while she ultimately lost out to SNP rival Gavin Newlands, she is confident she can build on that performance.

“Previously, the SNP held a majority of over 9,000 votes in Paisley and Renfrewshire North and people wrote off Labour’s chances,” said Ms Taylor.

“Today, the majority is just over 2,500 votes and it is game on.

“I’m campaigning non-stop to win in Paisley and Renfrewshire North for Labour.”

Ms Taylor said it is time to end “a decade of lost growth and a cost-of-living crisis.”

She added: “Across our public services, Tory and SNP cuts have caused chaos and declining standards, particularly in our NHS.

“We remember the closure of the children’s ward at the RAH, overseen by SNP politicians who broke their promises to keep it open. We must stop the creeping privatisation of our NHS in Scotland.

“A Labour government will invest £70billion into Scotland’s public services and economy because, when Labour wins, Scotland wins.”

Ms Taylor has stressed that bringing people together will be a fundamental part of her election campaign and has said she is passionate about working for the common good.

“I’m against more division,” she added. “That’s why I’ll campaign to remain in both the EU and the UK – and I’ll oppose a No-Deal Brexit, which would be a disaster for our country.

 

“If elected, I’ll work tirelessly for our communities in Paisley and Renfrewshire North, bringing well-paid secure jobs, investment for our public services and better local infrastructure.”
