POLICE have launched an investigation after a 46-year-old woman was found dying at a bus stop in East Renfrewshire. 

Officers were called to Harvie Avenue, Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire early on Tuesday morning. 

The woman was then rushed to a nearby hospital in East Kilbride, but sadly later died.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed the woman was found slumped on the pavement at 7.15am.

The discovery was made at dawn and it is not known how long she had been lying there.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland was made aware of concern for an 46-year-old woman found in a bus stop on Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns around 7.15am on Tuesday, 15 October.

"The woman was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where she later died.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained, although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
