A HIGH-flying young couple were set to ride on the wings of love when they got married in 2006.
Childhood sweethearts Kelly-Anne Regan and David Tait met as teenage cadets in the Johnstone Air Training Corps.
They shared the ambition of becoming pilots and continued training as students with the Glasgow University Air Squadron.
David was a fast-jet pilot in the RAF in 2005 while Kelly-Anne had just completed army officer training alongside Prince Harry at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst that year.
The couple’s proud families were looking forward to watching them walk down the aisle in a full military wedding.
Kelly-Anne, 24, who grew up in Sandy flats, Johnstone got together with David, 26, when they started as air cadets in 1998.
The former St Cuthbert’s High pupil had always wanted to go into the forces but her desire to become a pilot was thwarted by her height.
After graduating in 2003 from Strathclyde University with a BSC honours in Maths and Physics she was offered a highly sought-after place at Sandhurst.
She was commissioned from Sandhurst, as top third girl, in front of fiancee David and this week takes up her new post with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, where she will be in charge of a workshop fixing the army’s largest guns.
David, from Lochwinnoch, graduated with first class honours in aeronautical engineering from Glasgow University in 2001.
They were to marry in Glasgow University’s chapel with a guard of honour made up of army and air force colleagues.
Kelly-Anne was hoping her side would be made up of all female officers.
The couple got engaged when David asked Kelly-Anne to go for a walk with him, however, she was moaning that it was all uphill.
He managed to persuade her and got down on one knee as they crossed a bridge overlooking the university.
The couple were both based in Yorkshire only ten minutes from one another.
Kelly-Anne’s mum, Anne-Marie, said at the time: “I am just so glad that she has come so far.
“We are so proud that at such a young age she always wanted to do this and so many people change their minds but she really fulfilled it.”
