TWO young women have appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a teenager in Johnstone.

Agnes Bowers, 25, and Nora Holmes, 23, are alleged to have tried to kill the 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, in the town’s Graham Street.

Prosecutors claim they struck him on the head with a bottle, grabbed him by the body, punched and kicked him and stamped on his head.

The attempted murder charge they face also states they struck his head off a wall, threatened to set him on fire and then rained blows on his head and body with “an unknown sharp object,” leaving him badly hurt and scarred for life.

Bowers, of Royston, Glasgow, and Holmes, of Thrushcraigs Crescent, Paisley, were detained in connection with the alleged attack before appearing in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court last week.

As well as the attempted murder charge, they both face a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive way on the same day – Friday, October 4.

Sheriff Gill continued the case for prosecutors to investigate further, remanded Holmes in custody and released Bowers on bail.

No future court dates have been set but both accused are expected to go on trial before a jury next year.
