Shoppers at Barrhead’s Tesco store are being invited to cast their votes to help community projects which are working to improve the lives of people across Scotland.

Three charities are in the running to gain from big-hearted customers taking part in the Barrhead store’s Bags of Help scheme.

Every time someone shops in the store, they are given a blue token and asked to cast a vote for one of the three causes.

These are Home-start, a family support charity helping to give young children the best possible start in life in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde; Over the Wall, which supports children and young people facing serious health challenges; and Penumbra, which is one of Scotland’s largest mental health charities.

The Bags of Help project, which is marking Tesco’s centenary, will help charities across the west of Scotland secure up to £25,000 this autumn.

To date, Bags of Help, run in partnership with greenspace scotland, has awarded over £80million to more than 27,000 community projects.

In East Renfrewshire alone, it has awarded more than £73,000 to 21 local projects.

Tesco spokesman Tony McElroy said: “We’re calling on our customers to vote in store from October and show their support for these fantastic community causes.”
