Funds raised by an East Renfrewshire shopping mall have given a welcome boost to the aspirations of enterprising young students in the area.

The Avenue Shopping Centre, in Newton Mearns, has presented Young Enterprise Scotland (Rouken Glen) with £250 from its Community Fund.

Young Enterprise Scotland has been inspiring young people to learn, develop and reach their full potential through enterprise since 1992.

Every year, it supports hundreds of young people from all backgrounds in the local area to develop their business knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.

Emily Bennett, fundraising manager for Young Enterprise Scotland, said: “We will be using this £250 for equipment for our outdoor classroom at our Rouken Glen training centre.

“We are absolutely delighted with the support from The Avenue.

“The award will make a real difference to our important work with our enterprising young people.”

The Avenue set up its Community Fund to provide financial support to clubs, charities and other worthy causes throughout East Renfrewshire.

Applications to the fund are assessed on a bi-annual basis.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “Our shopping centre is rooted at the centre of our community and we continue to support local groups such as Young Enterprise Scotland.

“We look forward to hearing more about the classroom improvements as The Avenue is committed to developing East Renfrewshire’s young workforce.”
