Jordan Nobbs scored on her first league start for Arsenal since tearing her ACL last November as the Gunners beat Brighton 4-0 at Meadow Park.

Nobbs’ late goal capped off an impressive Gunners performance in North London with Kim Little, Vivianne Miedema and Danielle Van De Donk also getting on the scoresheet.

Arsenal, who beat Fiorentina to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League in midweek, produced a dominant display against a Brighton side who created little throughout the match.

Arsenal took the lead on ten minutes after Miedema played a well-timed through ball to Little who calmly slotted the ball past Megan Walsh from just inside the penalty area.

Arsenal dominated possession and pushed for another goal as Leah Williamson’s header just went wide on the half hour mark.

Little then played in Leonie Maier minutes later who just shot wide from inside the box after good pressure from the Brighton defence.

Brighton’s only chance of the half came when Kayleigh Green held up the ball well and worked a shot from 20 yards but was comfortably saved by Pauline Peyraud-Magnin in the home goal.

Arsenal’s pressure paid off after 40 minutes as a well-worked short corner was quickly played into Miedema inside the box who smashed the ball into the top left corner from just inside the penalty area to double Arsenal’s lead.

Miedema was involved again shortly after half time as she played in Van De Donk who passed the ball into the bottom right corner despite pressure from three Brighton defenders.

Arsenal continued to threaten, and Nobbs scored the final goal as Brighton failed to clear the ball. It fell to Nobbs on the edge of the area, whose scuffed shot went through the legs of Walsh.

Brighton’s only chance in second half fell to Matilde Lundorf Skovsken but her shot was blocked from eight yards out.

Arsenal threatened to add more as substitute Beth Mead’s fierce shot from 20 yards out hit the bar in the final five minutes.
