A PORTRAIT of legendary crooner Nat King Cole by a young Barrhead artist has taken second prize in a worldwide competition.
Luke Wilson bagged £500 for the portrait, created with coloured pencil on black paper.
For the competition, run by Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel in conjunction with the Barrhead News’ sister paper The Herald, artists were called on to produce portraits of some of the hotel’s famous guests.
More than 60 entries were submitted, including portraits of Hollywood stars such as Cary Grant and Charlie Chaplin.
It was then down to judges Paul Bray, who is the Grand Central Hotel’s general manager, The Herald’s editor-in-chief Donald Martin and art critic Jan Patience to choose the winners.
First place and a prize of £1,000 went to Gordon Irving, of Prestwick, for his stunning portrait of Billy Connolly.
The winning artwork will be on display on the second floor of the hotel, above the entrance to Champagne Central, from March 2020.
