A NEILSTON mum whose son was attacked by axe-wielding thugs has described the incident as “horrifying.”
Leeanna Short spoke out after her 15-year-old boy was left with a gaping wound.
The youngster, who is a pupil at St Luke’s High School, in Barrhead, was walking along Nitshill Road, near Corselet Road, with a friend when they were approached by two teenage boys.
In the moments that followed, he was struck on the head and body with a weapon, believed to be an axe.

He also had his mobile phone and bank card stolen.
Leeanna told how, after the attack, a trio of ‘good Samaritans’ – two men and a woman – stopped to help her son, who she has asked us not to name.
She said: “He remembers two boys walking behind them but he didn’t think anything of it. On the way back, they were walking past Sainsbury’s and they spotted the two boys again.
“He said the next thing he knew, they searched his pockets and took his phone.
“They started hitting him. These boys had an axe, which is horrifying. They hit him on the back with it but with the blunt side, fortunately. He has a massive bruise from it.
“A car then stopped to help him and the two boys ran off.
“We want to find these people who helped because we want to thank them. Also, they might be able to help piece together what happened.”
The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 25, after the victim and his friend, whose house he was staying at, had visited McDonald’s, in Darnley, for a late-night snack.
The trio who came to his aid were in a three-door silver or grey-coloured car.
Police have urged any witnesses to the attack to come forward.

Detective Constable Christopher Sneddon said: “It is vital that we trace those responsible.
“We are particularly keen to speak to those who were within the silver/grey-coloured car who assisted the 15-year-old and gave him a lift home. If this was you, we encourage you to get in touch.
“We would also ask anyone else who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen anything to come forward.”
The suspects are described as aged between 14 and 16. One was wearing a blue Lacoste tracksuit and had his face covered with a scarf or mask, while the other was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, quoting incident number 0631 of August 25.
