RESIDENTS in Barrhead got the chance to relax and connect spiritually at a yoga class last week.
Held at the Auchenback Resource Centre every Thursday, the weekly class is open to everyone – so people of all ages and abilities attend.
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing, with the main components being postures, held in a series of movements that are designed to increase strength and flexibility and improve breathing.
Judith Ritchie, who runs the class, has been doing yoga for more than 30 years and teaching for 15 years.
She told the Barrhead News: “I run the classes at the resource centre every Thursday, from 10.30am until 11.45am all through the year and it is open to anyone.
“Yoga is for everyone –to stretch, breath and relax – and it doesn’t matter how stiff you are.
“I am a gentle yoga teacher, so I teach with the breath and I love it. People that come to the class are so lovely and they are a welcoming bunch for anyone who wants to join.
“There are yoga mats in the centre if people want to try it out for the first couple of classes and I would say to wear comfortable clothing and to bring a blanket because, at the end of class, there is 20 minutes’ relaxation where everyone has a sleep – it is a sympathy of snores.”
