AN IMPORTANT trunk road connecting the south side of the River Clyde to West Dunbartonshire is to close for several nights this month.

The southbound carriageway of the M898, a spur route from the M8 motorway towards the Erskine Bridge, will be shut overnight at 10pm on August 15, 16 and 17 until 6am the following morning.

The closure is to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.

Omar Sarwar, Scotland TranServ’s assistant engineer, said: “Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully schedule this short programme of resurfacing works to be delivered with minimal disruption to commuters, businesses and holidaymakers.

“This is an important trunk road, connecting Dunbartonshire, Argyll and the Highlands with Glasgow and the busy Central Belt.

“Balancing the needs of maintaining the carriageway while limiting the impact on motorists is a challenge.

“To minimise disruption to the travelling public the short programme has been scheduled for after the school holidays.”

Local diversions will be in place throughout these overnight works. Drivers are advised to allow some additional journey time.

Live trunk road information will be available at trafficscotland.org or via @trafficscotland on Twitter.

Diversion information is available on the Scotland TranServ website.
