A CHARITY champion who has collected more than £100,000 for worthy causes is hosting a quirky fundraiser.

Robin Miller, from Uplawmoor, has been campaigning and supporting Children with Cancer UK, raising cash through celebrity-signed auctions, participating in a number of marathons and hosting events.

And his latest venture is a Friends-themed night which will be held at Giffnock North Social Club on Saturday.

It will involve a Friends quiz, with a raffle and an auction.

The 36-year-old told the Barrhead News: “I have been fundraising since 2006 when I took on my first event when I went trekking in Peru – people always ask me why I did it and at the time it was all about doing something different and good for charity.

“After that I caught a bit of ‘fundraising bug’ which led to me doing marathons, more trekking, setting up events and just never stopping.

“The most recent count of how much I’ve raised has just hit £109,000. At the beginning, it was a bit of a fight to get the money coming in, but it has really taken off.

“Ninety-five per cent of the fundraising has been done through auctions on eBay – I had been working really hard to source items from amazing people and I have now decided to swap it over to event style.”

Since his charity drive began in 2006, Robin has got up close with some of Scotland’s best-known football stars and just two weeks ago, he met former Doctor Who star David Tennant.

He has also rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names across the pond, including Samuel L. Jackson, Dennis Hopper and David Schwimmer, who are among those who have backed his fundraising efforts.

Robin added: “At the moment, all of the money that is raised, goes to Children with Cancer UK – out of the £109,000 that’s been raised, £69,000 of that alone has been donated to the children’s charity.

“The event that is taking place on Saturday is called ‘I’ll Be There For You’ and is a Friends themed event – and funnily enough I have just left the Friendsfest event in Manchester.

“There are lots of local businesses who are getting involved and it’s looking like being a great night.”
