COUNCIL staff in East Renfrewshire have been honoured for their efforts to maintain the best possible service for residents.

More than 100 staff gathered at Clarkston Hall to celebrate the achievements of colleagues from across the council and Health and Social Care Partnership.

The We Are East REN awards were handed out in eight categories, designed to tie in to the council’s vision of being a modern, ambitious organisation that helps to create a fairer future.

Chief executive Lorraine McMillan said: “It was wonderful to celebrate the amazing contribution made by so many of our staff and hear all the amazing stories about the work which goes on day-in, day-out to ensure our residents receive the best services possible.

“As our recognition scheme continues to grow in the years ahead, I hope it will instil a sense of pride into our entire workforce."

A total of 25 finalists were shortlisted, with winners chosen for showing absolute dedication to their role.

Sadie McIsaac, a pupil support assistant based at St Luke’s High, won the Putting People First award, while the Innovation and Improvement prize went to the catering team at the St Clare’s and Calderwood Lodge Primary joint faith campus.

Other award winners were Sheila Marshall, of Woodfarm High, who won the Going the Extra Mile prize; human resources worker Claire Shaw, who was named Unsung Hero; James Toal, who scooped the Young Employee of the Year gong for his work with neighbourhood services in the cleansing team; customer services manager Sarah Jane Hayes, who was named Leader of the Year; and creditors team manager Lorna Adams, who claimed the Chief Executive’s Award.
