PLANNED strike action has been suspended at Glasgow Airport today to allow for further talks to take place.

Unite confirmed it cancelled the walk-out so workers could continue to discuss the dispute over pensions and pay with bosses at the Paisley terminal.

It comes after a strike was also cancelled on Sunday as it coincided with the anniversary of the 2007 terror attack.

Industrial action is still planned for Friday between 9.30am and 1.30pm and every day between July 11 and July 15.

A Glasgow Aiport spokesman said: “Our robust and safe contingencies will be in place to ensure passengers continue to be unaffected.”

The airport’s latest offer includes a three per cent pay increase for 2019, backdated to January, with the same percentage guaranteed for 2020 and an immediate £600 bonus for workers.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite regional industrial officer, said: “Unite appreciates the inconvenience this is causing, but we hope the public understand the bigger issue here is the attack on our members’ deferred pay through the closure of their pension scheme, and a pay offer which doesn’t even get close to matching the rises and the bonuses the boardroom receives.”
