A TEAM of caring workmates from Barrhead and Neilston cycled 112 miles in aid of a kids’ charity in 2009.

The colleagues from Rolls-Royce did the mammoth return trek to the Heads of Ayr to raise funds for Yorkhill Sick Children’s Hospital, in Glasgow, generating a whopping £13,000.

In preparation for the cycle, volunteers also completed three training sessions, which brought their total mileage up to almost 320 miles.

At the time, Neilston man James McIntosh told the Barrhead News of his delight at raising so much cash.

He said: “It is brilliant that we have managed to raise such a large amount of money. Last year, one of the guys we work with had a child who was very ill when she was born, so that’s why we decided to raise money for Yorkhill.

“It’s brilliant to know we have raised money that the hospital can use.”
