THE Scottish SPCA is urging people to think very carefully before buying a bunny, following a sharp rise in the number of rabbits coming into their care in the first half of the year.
It is hoped the plea, which has been issued as part of Rabbit Awareness Week, will lead to fewer unwanted animals.
Anna O’Donnell, manager at the SSPCA rescue and rehoming centre in Cardonald, said: “So far this year, we have cared for 23 rabbits at our centre, compared to 14 in the same period last year.
“This worrying trend demonstrates why we need to raise awareness of the hardships many pet rabbits face.”
