AN adult netball team has been handed a donation of £1,000 to fund its efforts to encourage people to be healthy.

Barrhead BBN was given the cash by Persimmon Homes West Scotland as part of the builder’s Community Champions project.

The team, affiliated with BBN, a national body that stands for Bounce Back to Netball, is also working towards dispelling the myth that netball is for ‘women only.’

Elaine Stewart, who applied for the funding on behalf of the Barrhead BBN team, said: “Breaking down perceptions that netball isn’t just a sport for girls and encouraging people over the age of 18 to embrace sport has been pretty successful.

“Covering tournament costs, hall rental and supplying kit can be costly though, leaving us reliant on fundraising and donations like this one.”

The team uses netball as a way to combat social isolation and promote healthy living among its members, who are men and women aged from 22 to 66.
