TRAIN passengers in East Renfrewshire are being urged to check their journey for any changes now that ScotRail’s new timetable is up and running.
The rail operator has handed a much-needed boost for long-suffering customers by introducing more seats on services travelling through Barrhead.
As of Sunday, May 19, a new timetable has been in place that adds four more carriages for peak services, providing an extra 3,000 seats.
There has been significant passenger growth on this route in recent years but some commuters have accused ScotRail of being slow to catch up, leading to frequent overcrowding on journeys.
Services on the Glasgow to East Kilbride line have also been boosted, from four to six carriages, which will provide an additional 1,000 seats as trains stop at Thornliebank, Giffnock, Clarkston and Busby.
David Simpson, ScotRail's operations director, said: “These timetable changes will deliver even more improvements on our railway, with the investment providing faster journeys, more seats and more services for our customers.
“Everyone across the ScotRail Alliance is working flat out to deliver the service that our customers expect and deserve.”
