VILLAGERS have taken over the Neighbourhood Watch to combat criminal activity in Uplawmoor.
Due to growing concerns over a recent spike of criminality and suspicious behaviour, the village’s community council has now taken over the initiative from previous co-ordinator Duncan Drummond.
And Neighbourhood Watch signs have now been placed around Uplawmoor to remind petty criminals their crimes aren’t going unnoticed.
The community council hopes it will deter the mischief after the village community was targeted by unknown thieves stealing two sports bags from unlocked cars in Mure Park and seating benches and other items being rearranged between gardens in Neilston Road.
Ross Leggat, Uplawmoor Community Council’s secretary, told the Barrhead News: “The previous co-ordinator of the Uplawmoor Neighbourhood Watch approached us and asked if we would take over the scheme to help drive it forward within our village.
“We would like to thank Duncan Drummond for all his hard work getting the scheme to this point.
“Due to the number of recent incidents in the village, we feel it is important to emphasise to both potential criminals and residents of the village that we are taking action and these crimes are not going unnoticed.
“Uplawmoor is a close-knit village, however, residents signing up for the neighbourhood watch scheme ensures that they receive all alerts as soon as possible.”
