A PILOT project which offers deaf British Sign Language (BSL) patients access to interpreting services is being trialled for six months.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is enabling deaf BSL patients, including those in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, to use an app which they can download to their phone and, when they attend an appointment, they can get instant access to a BSL interpreter on screen.
If patients want to use the service, their GP or healthcare provider will be informed.
Jac Ross, equality and human rights manager at NHSGGC, said: “This development will not be replacing face-to-face interpreters but allowing choice for deaf people.”
