A NEILSTON mum has praised her daughters for raising cash for a children’s charity by taking part in the Kiltwalk.

For the third year in a row, Gayle Harvey and her girls Katie and Emily joined forces to take on the six-mile challenge in aid of Calum’s Cabin, which offers respite for families with youngsters who are battling cancer.

Katie, 13, who is a second year pupil at Eastwood High, was inspired to raise money for the charity during a trip to Rothesay, where Calum’s Cabin is based.

And her 10-year-old sister Emily was soon following in her footsteps.

The youngsters took on the ‘Wee Wander’ challenge as part of the Kiltwalk, which saw thousands of volunteers teaming up for a trek from Dumbarton to Loch Lomond.

Gayle told the Barrhead News: “I am so proud of the girls. They show an empathy for other people that you don’t often see.

“We would like to say a massive thank-you to everyone who sponsored us and special thanks go to granny and grandpa, who dropped us off and picked us up.”

The girls raised over £500 for Calum’s Cabin, which was set up in memory of Rothesay youngster Calum Speirs, who died in 2007 after battling a brain tumour.

The charity is run by his parents Caroline and Duncan and aims to share the beautiful part of the world where he lived with other children experiencing similar difficulties.
