THE owners of one of East Renfrewshire’s best-known businesses have decided to sell up after 27 years at the helm.

Husband-and-wife team Stuart and Emma Peacock have become well-known faces in the local community during their long stint in charge at the Uplawmoor Hotel.

However, the couple have announced that, after deciding they would like to spend more time with family, they have put the 18th-century establishment on the market.

A number of famous faces have stepped through the doors since the couple took over the former coach house in 1992, including Rab C Nesbitt star Gregor Fisher and Paisley singing sensation Paolo Nutini.

Mr and Mrs Peacock confirmed: “We are selling the hotel to take the opportunity to travel and spend time with family.”

The Uplawmoor Hotel, which has been extended and renovated over the years, comprises a 60-cover restaurant, as well as cocktail bar, lounge bar and large beer garden.

It also has 14 en-suite bedrooms, all of which are situated on the first floor.

The family is well-known in the hospitality sector in East Renfrewshire.

Mr Peacock’s mother, Rena McKay, owned the Fereneze Inn, in Barrhead, and his father Ian managed both the Brig Inn and the Arthurlie Inns.

The sale of the Uplawmoor Hotel is being handled by specialist business property advisers Christie & Co.

Offers in the region of £750,000 for the freehold interest are being sought.

Stuart Drysdale, director at Christie & Co, told the Barrhead News: “Uplawmoor Hotel presents a superb opportunity for an experienced operator to take on a successfully trading business with a strong reputation.

“The business benefits from strong levels of passing trade and the bar and restaurant are especially popular with both locals and visitors to the area.

“Benefiting from multiple income streams, including the letting accommodation, bar and restaurant, the business could be operated under management or on an owner-operator basis.”
