TWO of the most eagerly-anticipated events in East Renfrewshire’s social calendar have been handed a cash boost.

Tourism organisation EventScotland has agreed to provide funding for the Barrhead Rainbow Run, which takes place in Carlibar Park on Saturday, June 15.

And there is also cash for the Run The Blades event, which will be staged at Whitelee Windfarm, on Eaglesham Moor, on Friday, July 19.

A grant of £4,000 will help to make sure this year’s Rainbow Run is bigger and better than before, while the Run The Blades event benefits from a £12,500 windfall.

The Barrhead Rainbow Run brings people of all ages together to tackle a range of obstacles as they are splattered with powder paint.

Andy Dunlop, manager of the Barrhead Business Improvement District, which organises the event, said: “Getting the support of EventScotland lets us know we are doing all the right things to ensure we keep promoting Barrhead as a positive place to work, live, shop and visit.”
