BEAVERS, Cubs and Scouts enjoyed an exciting adventure weekend as part of preparations for their summer camp.

Youngsters from the 1st Neilston Scout Group made their way to the Lapwing Lodge outdoor centre on the Gleniffer Braes, near Paisley.

Managed by warden Ross Dunbar, the site was the perfect place for a variety of challenging activities, staged under the direction of senior district commissioner Gerry Green.

Around 70 young people enjoyed exploring the great outdoors as they put their physical abilities to the test on climbing ropes, made friends around the campfire and dressed up in sumo suits for some playful wrestling.

Anwar Rafiq, of 1st Neilston Scout Group, told the Barrhead News: “The adventure weekend was organised to help the kids prepare for their summer camp, which takes place in June.

“We had low ropes, high ropes, fencing and sumo, as well as the chance to enjoy the camp fire.

“On the Sunday, we held a presentation for those who are moving up from the Cubs to the Scouts.

“There was around 70 kids at the adventure weekend and it was fantastic fun. The weather was good too.”

With something to offer for children and teenagers, the Scout movement remains one of the largest youth organisations in the world.
