ISLA, Sophie and Jack have been confirmed as the most popular baby names in East Renfrewshire in 2018.

The National Records of Scotland published the final full list of all the names given to babies during last year across the country, and Isla and Jack came out on top in the region.

A total of 16 baby boys were named Jack while 18 newborn girls were given the name Isla or Sophie.

Other boys names in the area which proved popular included James, Rory and Callum, while the most common girls names included Holly, Ava, Eva, Ella and Evie.

The list did also reveal some extremely unusual names which were given to babies across the country, including one boy called Awesome and a girl named Adora-Belle.

Meanwhile, the parents of one boy called him Wiseman, and there were two infant girls named Divine.

Politics had an influence on many parents, as four girls born last year share a forename with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

And there was a baby boy called Corbyn, as well as a Corbyn Blue and a boy called Boris.
