A NEW award, sponsored by the Barrhead News, is being launched to recognise those making an outstanding contribution to the community.

The winner of the Barrhead Star prize will be unveiled at a glittering ceremony in May.

And nominations are now being sought from those who know an individual or organisation deserving of some special recognition for outstanding achievements or endeavours.

The prize is the headline gong in the All About Barrhead Awards.

Other awards up for grabs include Family Business of the Year, Employee of the Year, Customer Excellence, Innovator of the Year, Impact in the Community and Young Person of the Year.

Andy Dunlop, manager of event organisers All About Barrhead, which is the area’s Business Improvement District, is delighted to be joining forces with the town’s local newspaper.

He said: “It is brilliant the Barrhead News will be sponsoring our headline award of Barrhead Star.

“The whole point of these awards is to recognise what a great community we have in Barrhead. Ever since I started working in Barrhead, I’ve seen what a great community there is but I’ve also seen how they are not great at shouting about it, so this is to celebrate the work they do and how great the businesses and local groups are.

“I would encourage people to nominate anyone they believe is worthy of a prize.”

More than 100 nominations have been received so far but it is hoped around 400 will come in before the deadline of 8pm on Friday, April 12.

The first ever All About Barrhead Awards are scheduled to take place on Friday, May 31, in the newly-refurbished Dalmeny Park Hotel.
