THE latest eagle-eyed recruits at Rouken Glen Park were put through their paces in a special induction day.

Nature lovers of all ages turned out in Giffnock for the year’s first session of the Bee and Butterfly group as they were given a taster of what’s to come.

The bug-spotters will spend the next six months exploring the park and recording the number of bees and butterflies for national databases.

Katy McGregor, activity ranger at Rouken Glen Park, told the Barrhead News: “The day went really well and it was nice to see so many new recruits.

“We split the day into two halves – the first inside and, for the second, we explored the park and had a go at spotting the bees and butterflies.

“Volunteers will follow a rota and cover two days a week from April until October.

“The good thing is they can come at anytime and don’t need to be monitored by us.

“There was a good mix of ages on Saturday, with the youngest spotter around 13 and the oldest in their 60s.

“I got a lot of good feedback and everyone seemed to learn something, which is the most important thing.”
