HOUSING chiefs vowed yesterday they are on track to deliver 50,000 affordable homes in Scotland by 2021.
But new figures released by the Scottish Government reveal the number of homes completed in Renfrewshire dropped year-on-year, despite an increase in the country as a whole.
The local authority experienced a four per cent drop across all sectors, including private and council built, in 2017/18 as 949 homes were finished by the end of September.
In 2016/17, there were 988 homes completed in the area during the same time period.
Meanwhile, in East Renfrewshire, there was an increase year-on-year, with 182 homes built in 2017/18, compared to just 155 the year before – an increase of 17 per cent.
In Scotland as a whole, a total of 18,750 new homes were completed in 2017/18, which was a four per cent increase on 2016/17.
Housing Minister Kevin Stewart said: “Making sure everyone has a safe, warm and affordable home is central to the government’s vision for a fairer and more prosperous Scotland. I am delighted that we remain on track to deliver on our ambitious target to deliver 50,000 affordable homes during the lifetime of this Parliament, backed by over £3billion of investment.”
