BARRHEAD’S Scotmid store has become the first local retailer to make a financial donation to a campaign to install defibrillators throughout the town.

Douglas Yates, chair of the Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership, went along to the Aurs Drive shop to pick up a cheque for £500 from the company’s west region membership and community officer Yvonne Goodfellow.

“It was a pleasure to go along to Scotmid to receive their donation and say thank-you for recognising the work of Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership,” said Mr Yates.

“The first six of the public access defibrillators have now been purchased and we are trying to secure the services of an electrical contractor to fit them in the next few weeks.

“The first of them will be fitted on the wall of Auchenback Resource Centre, as directors there have been supportive from day one and are keen to work as part of a community partnership with the charity.”

The fundraising drive will continue this Friday, when a race night is held at the United Services Club, in Paisley Road, from 7pm. Sponsorship is being sought and tickets are still available.

These cost £5 and can be booked by calling Chris Hughes on 0787 024 7151.
