BARRHEAD Housing Association is making a stand against domestic abuse.

At a governing board meeting held last month, the organisation committed itself to the ‘Make A Stand’ campaign.

The initiative was launched in the summer of 2018, as part of the Chartered Institute of Housing’s presidential appeal to tackle domestic abuse.

The pledge gives housing organisations the opportunity to sign up to make four commitments to provide support for people experiencing abuse in a domestic setting.

Barrhead Housing Association has vowed to put in place a policy to support residents affected by domestic abuse, make information about national and local domestic abuse support services available on its website and in other appropriate places so they are easily accessible for residents and staff, put in place a HR policy to support members of staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse and appoint a senior officer to oversee the activity being done to support domestic abuse victims.

David McCready, chairman of Barrhead Housing Association, is pleased to see the organisation stating its support for the campaign..

He said: “We have a strong and established track record of wider community action, including supporting Women’s Aid to tackle domestic abuse.

“By committing to Make a Stand, Barrhead Housing Association is taking further steps to ensure that our customers and staff are able to feel safe and secure in their homes and able to access the appropriate advice and support services should the need ever arise.”
