THERE is little doubt that Barrhead and Neilston have seen a lot of changes over the years. Now a new book illustrates the transformation that has taken place during the last century.
Author and photographer Keith Fergus has joined forces with local historian Matt Drennan to produce ‘Barrhead and Neilston: Then & Now.’
The book features modern day images from the two towns alongside 100-year-old snaps of the same locations.
In Kingston Road today, the trees are gone but the building and bowling green remain
Inspiration for the project came from a collection of postcards and old photographs Matt came across while working for the Neilston War Memorial Association.
Cowdenhall was an active laird's hall-house in the 1800s
Published by the Inchinnan-based Homework Diary Company, the book was released last month and copies have been snapped up by people far and wide, eager to see how the local area has changed with the years.
Matthew said: “We have been really pleased with the feedback from readers and have received very many kind messages from all around the world, from people who have been sent or have purchased a book.
Killoch Glen, Neilston, was a place of serene beauty 100 years ago
“It has been sent to America, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the Far East and around Europe.
“It just shows that, however far away people find themselves, they always have a wee soft spot for their old home towns and the places of their youth.”
