Investigations are to take place at Braidbar Quarry to assess the existing ground conditions and the safety concerns surrounding the Giffnock site.
Advance Construction Scotland, which will be undertaking the works, is in early stage discussions with East Renfrewshire Council to help develop a viable, community focused solution which will remediate the land and solve the current safety issues facing the public, homes and families in the vicinity of the quarry.
Previous technical experts have carried out preliminary exploratory works and have already outlined pressing safety concerns, with estimates stating there could be up to 800,000 cubic metres of water beneath a highly unstable surface.
Lance Gordon, technical director at Advance Construction Scotland, said: “Braidbar Quarry has been a problematic site in East Renfrewshire for almost two decades. Whilst many other companies have looked at the land in the past, no one has been able to find a workable solution and the problems still remain.
“In its present state,it is considered to be unsafe, unstable, and in need of immediate attention, so we welcome the news East Renfrewshire Council is being proactive in tackling this complex site.
“From our initial work we know the remediation will be extensive. However, we believe we have created a workable proposal that will bring about a resolution.”
