A BARRHEAD fundraiser teamed up arch football rivals Rangers and Celtic in a bid to raise cash a decade ago.

Marianne Wong and her partner Fraser Robertson used their charm to secure a signed Celtic strip and signed Rangers football and champagne.

The gifts were generously donated by both football clubs to help Marianne and Fraser raise money for the Kenyan Aid Project.

The couple were set to head off to Malindi, Kenya after a year and a half of fundraising to visit orphanages and donate money raised.

Marianne said: “It was incredibly generous of both football clubs to donate these gifts which have been signed by top players.

“We are auctioning the gifts online and we are looking for a minimum of £250 for the signed Celtic strip and £95 minimum for the signed Rangers football and £25 the champagne.

“The football strip comes in a gold frame with a plaque saying Scottish Premier League Champions. And the Rangers football comes in a special box also signed.

“All of the money raised will go towards helping children who have been left with nothing and find themselves in a desperate situation.

“So we are hoping that people in Barrhead and East Renfrewshire will dig deep into their pockets to help a good cause.”

The inspirational couple dedicated the five years to raising money for the Kenyan Aid project. And earlier in 2008 Marianne met the First Minister Alex Salmond, who kindly donated a premium bottle of Scottish whisky to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Marianne added: “Mr Salmond was very keen to know more about her work with the project and told me not to accept a penny less than £200 for the bottle of the nation’s favourite alcohol. “People have been very generous and we have received great support from kind-hearted people in Barrhead."
