POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking in Newton Mearns yesterday.
Officers are especially keen for a woman who stopped to assist a man following the incident to contact them.
It was around 10pm last night (Monday) that a house in Forrestfield Crescent, Newton Mearns, Glasgow, was broken into and personal items stolen along with a three-figure sum of cash.
Neighbours went to check on the premises when the alarm was activated and called police as a number of people, possibly four, were seen fleeing from the house across back gardens.
No further description of the suspects was provided other than they are believed to be men and one was wearing a balaclava.
Police report that there was no one in the house at the time of the incident.
Constable David Orr, Community Investigation Unit, Govan Police Office, said: "A woman driving a Ford Focus on Crookfur Road stopped to assist one of the neighbours who had reported the incident to police.
"It is believed she may have seen the suspects get into and make off in a black car on Crookfur Road.
“She may have information that will help our enquiry, possibly even dashcam footage, that will help identify the black car making off.
“I would ask that she, or indeed anyone who can assist our investigation, contact officers from the Community Investigation team at Govan Police Station via 101.
"Please quote incident number 3943 of Monday 10, September 2018, when calling. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
