TWO talented young performers are dancing on air after being cast in a show with a West End star.

Cerys Tinney, from Barrhead, and Mia Currie, from Paisley, will be appearing in “Movies to Musicals”, a show from the Glasgow Philharmonia Orchestra.

They will be singing and dancing alongside Kerry Ellis, who has played lead roles in musicals such as “Wicked” and “Les Miserables” at the West End.

They will also be performing alongside classical singer Lucy Kay, who shot to fame in 2014 on “Britain’s Got Talent” and whose debut album “Fantasia” shot to the top of the classical albums charts.

Cerys, 12, and Mia, 10, both attend Gillian Anderson’s Le Dance Studio in Barrhead. Mia has been going since she was just two years old and Cerys since she was seven.

Le Dance Studio has been running for more than 30 years, but it was in August last year that the decision was made to start a musical theatre class where the children are taught to sing, dance and act.

The girls were among 170 young performers who auditioned for “Movies to Musicals”, with only 33 successful.

Cerys, a pupil at St Luke’s, said: “I feel so lucky to have been picked for ‘Movies to Musicals’. It is my dream to be on stage and I am so happy to have been given this opportunity.”

Mia, of Todholm Primary School, said: “I am so happy that we have been given the opportunity to perform in ‘Movies to Musicals’ with a Broadway star.

“I am really proud of all the girls who auditioned from Le Dance Studio.”
Rehearsals begin in October when they will be learning songs from shows like “Footloose”, “Mary Poppins” and “Cats”.

The concert is on at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on February 22. Call 0141 353 8000 for tickets.
