Families flocked to Barrhead Community Fire Station on Saturday as part of East Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Day.

The free event saw around a dozen groups from across the area welcome members of the public into their buildings, with the local fire station one of the most popular.

Children were given the chance to experience the everyday job of firefighters, getting to go behind the wheel of a fire engine or slide down the station’s pole.

Firefighters were also on hand to put the youngsters through their paces and even let them loose on some of the smaller water cannons available.

Doors Open Day is an annual event where public buildings are open to the public across the country.

In East Renfrewshire, Barrhead Fire Station staff were joined by their colleagues in Clarkston in opening their doors.

Barrhead Men’s Shed and Neilston Parish Church also took part in the event.
