THE Charlatans paid tribute to Frightened Rabbit singer-songwriter Scott Hutchison at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival on Friday night.

Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess invited Scott’s brother and fellow bandmate Grant Hutchison along with keyboard player Billy Kennedy onstage to perform an emotional rendition of the band’s track, Head Rolls Off.

Earlier on, Burgess had tweeted: “Lots of love for @FRabbits at @BelladrumFest.”

The surprise performance came after members of both groups had spent the afternoon rehearsing in secret within a makeshift practice room at the Highland festival site.

Scott Hutchison had been due to headline Belladrum’s Hothouse stage with Frightened Rabbit before he was found dead, aged 36, in May.

In response, Belladrum organisers arranged to screen a video tribute as well as playing the band’s album – The Midnight Organ Fight – in full. In addition, artist Michael Corr’s mural of the singer was also transported to the festival and has taken pride of place outside the Hothouse tent. Fans are being asked to donate to the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
