One of the biggest days of the year for an East Renfrewshire village took place on Saturday as the Uplawmoor Gala Day drew a huge crowd.

The annual event took place at Mure Park in the village at the weekend and, despite the weather not quite holding out, the giant marquee provided some shelter for revellers.

Kicking off the day was the restored Gala Day football match, which was resurrected after a lengthy spell of not taking place on the morning of the event.

The match was followed by a fancy dress parade, before the Gala Day and the Uplawmoor Runs race which were taking place throughout the afternoon.

Councillor Angela Convery was also on hand to give out prizes to the day’s racers, with Duncan Robinson clocking in the with the best time on the day.

Overall, the Uplawmoor Gala Day organisers raised more than £300 at the event.

Posting on social media, organisers said: “Thanks to everyone who came along to the Gala Day today, great to see a good turn out despite the rain early on, luckily once again it dried up enough to enjoy a good village get together.

“Thanks also to everyone who made the day possible, the many organisers, volunteers and stall holders as well as everyone who donated the fabulous baking, books, bric a brac, and prizes.

“Too many to list but the day really wouldn’t be possible without you all.”
