YOUNGSTERS will be able to get even more sporty, thanks to East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure.

The organisation, which runs sports and leisure activities locally, has won a grant of almost £300,000 from sportscotland to invest in physical activity over the next year.

The money will be invested in school sports through ERCL’s Active Schools programme, delivering extra-curricular activities, inter-school sports, competitions, sport leadership programmes for pupils and teacher training sessions.

It will also provide holiday activity programmes, sports coaching and volunteering opportunities, as well as sustaining links with local sports clubs.

Additional funding has also been secured by ERCL to tackle physical inactivity with taster programmes and extended support being provided throughout the year.

Anthony McReavy, ERCL’s chief executive, said: “East Renfrewshire is the place to be if you want your child to have a wide range of school sports activities to choose from and a good quality local community sports club scene.“This investment from the national sports agency is a reflection of the high standards achieved in East Renfrewshire and the confidence it has in ERCL.”

“Our school and community sport activities will increase participation and help people who are inactive to become active through our community sport hubs.”
