YOUNG people from Barrhead and Neilston were doing their bit for good causes in 2008.
Pupils from Springhill Primary held a Fair Trade Day that ensured everyone connected with the school was aware of the movement, its aims and the way it pays producers in poorer countries a proper price for their goods.
Elsewhere, the Neilston Development Trust (NDT) organised a spring clean, in association with Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Young residents in the area had previously taken part in a similar exercise to mark National Spring Clean Day.
This prompted the NDT to organise a litter pick which focused on Mafeking, Millview, Brig O’Lea and Wellpark Terrace.
A spokesman for the trust said at the time: “Here we are in another year with more litter and we still need to keep making the point that littering is unacceptable.”
