THE ladies at a Barrhead lunch club served up a large slice of support for Breast Cancer Care.
Members of the Soup Stop, at Bourock Parish Church, handed over a cheque for £3,600 to the charity following a month-long fundraising drive in October.
Proceeds from the weekly club at the Main Street church were added to a Ladies’ Pink Lunch at Fereneze Golf Club, which holed £2,000.
The latest fundraising campaign means Soup Stop volunteers have now raised close to £70,000 for charity since the group’s formation in 2008.
Proud Linda Dye, who helped found the club, said: “We were really pleased with the total, needless to say.
“The main amount of money came from the Ladies’ Pink Lunch and then the profits from the Soup Stop were added to that.
“We will have raised more than £25,000 for Breast Cancer Care alone since we started.”That was our ninth ladies’ lunch and we’re really hoping to go for £30,000 when we hold our 10th next year.
“Since we started the Soup Stop, I think that we’ve raised about £70,000 for charity. We try and pick different charities but we have set months that we always raise for particular causes, such as October for Breast Cancer Care.”
The Bourock Soup Stop is open every Friday, serving home-made soups and light lunches from 11.45am to 2pm.
New members are always welcome.
