Edinburgh University student Alexander Baskhanov admitted supplying the drug to Ben McLean.
Ben's body was found lying in the rear garden of a close of flats on January 16 of this year.
When Baskhanov, 19, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this week he pled guilty to two drugs charges.
Ben was a former pupil of St Luke’s High School, and was his second-year of studies at Edinburgh University’s Medical School.
Baskhanov will be sentence on November 26.
